I've also been working on a 'little something' for Ethan, which I'll post today...sorry it's a little late, but I haven't been myself lately...getting better, though, I think.

If you don't mind...I just read what Patty wrote about discipline and children, and I can tell you that Lindsay is the disciplinarian in their home, and Darryl tends to 'give in' more...ie..Jack wants to be picked up to go into the next room and Lindsay says, no, but we can hold hands if you want, which satisfies him. With Darryl...he'd tend to pick him up after a bit of whining. Yes...they have talked about it and he knows he has to be more strict...but Lindsay simple realizes that she's the one who'll be saying all those 'no' words and like I said...poor Jack...he won't be able to get away with anything. Which..is really a good thing. I was also like Patty. Although they never misbehaved in restaurants, if either of them decided to have a melt-down in a mall or in the car driving somewhere, I'd give one warning, then phhht! Pack 'em up and leave or turn the car around and "not to go visit Grandma and Grandpa" today. And like Patty said....it usually only took one such lesson and the message got through. The ticket is consistency! Yes, some days we're too tired or worn out to say one more 'no' word, and giving in would be so much easier, but that just leads to disaster, so consistency is the key.

Well....that's my soap-box rant for today. ;-) You're going to be fine. Just look at all you have accomplished...the strong woman you are...you three will be just fine!

I think the toughest part about being a parent is that someone has to be the "bad guy". I have found that it really makes them think about the consequences of their actions and decisions. It also empowers them though. Makes them feel that mom/dad is not always in charge of their life. I am that mom who has dragged their misbehaving kid out of a restaurant in the middle of a meal and wrapped everything up to go, but I only had to do it once and that lesson was learned. It's tough to dicipline kids, especially in public, with the world watching but remember it's your kid. I am lucky that Larry never gets embarassed by anything I do in public. They really are just little animals and they need a lot of rules, boundaries and limitations. I am also the type that tells them, "hey we don't have the money for that". Thankfully now I have a 13 year old that doesn't want Ed Hardy shoes and knows the limits. My poor friend has 2 teens with no idea of the value of money and she is paying dearly for it now. $500 Prada phone for the girl, Ed Hardy clothes for the boy, they want , want , want. They had to take out a loan to accomodate the kids wants. So sad.
