Tonight for dinner im making Blade Roast with carrots and onions with the roast, mashed potatoes, gravy and a nice green salad. Dessert is blueberry pie which i made during the week with fresh blueberries. I was on a baking binge this week and made 2 apple pies using Lobo apples, 1 blueberry pie with fresh blueberries, 24 muffins using those Quaker Instant Oatmeal packets and added 1 banana and 1 cup of frozen red currants and some fresh applesauce because i have too much frozen fruit. If anyone wants the recipe for that, PM me. It is very easy. Well the 2 apple pies were gone within 3 days (hubby ate them and i helped a bit); froze 12 of the muffins, only 3 left now.

Tonight we are having company so burgers on the grill( with fresh made buns courtesy of DH), potato salad, corn on the cob , maybe deviled eggs and fresh apple pie(again made by DH this morning) with vanilla ice cream-maybe a bit of wine thrown in there somewhere.

For the first time we all ate Halal beef burgers ( frozen commercial variety), the taste was good, but salty to me. Cooked 8 of them and there was about 1 full cup of grease left in the pan. Confirms why I dislike premade/frozen patties, we usually buy the meat and do our own.
However, I did welcome the information about the reason for this particular diet restriction from our guest, she was so sweet to explain it all to me...don't mind me, I'm a silly white person living in a bubble....lol!!

12 marinated pork skewers (marinade, pork, onion, celery, and garden zucchini) with leftover rice and a glass of milk. There will be leftover skewers.

edit: dh just brought the skewers in off the bbq. They are all somewhat black. He's being a pain in the ... about it because I apparently put too much oil in the marinade. Dh's only job was to bbq them. He left them unattended and is complaining to me because the bbq and food caught fire while he was inside playing on the computer. He says that the bbq was on low. He says that grease caught his socks on fire and he is surprised that he has eyebrows to go to work. I apologized for using too much oil, but still said that the bbq should not be left unattended (pet peeve of mine...he usually does this) Luckily he food doesn't taste that burnt and you could still taste the marinade. grr Sorry for the rant, but come on dh. That's just not playing fair.

Last night MIL made a curry with halibut and a sweet and spicy fruit salsa and of course her homemade chutneys dessert was homemade cookies and creme caramel( one of my faves that she makes)

Today I blanched and froze dozens of jubilee corn from chilliwack (the best corn on the planet!!!), made corn chowder with the cobs, and lasagna rolls that went straight to the freezer for later dinners.

Tonight is frozen pizza and chili lol

Perogies that I bought for $1 (on sale at Food Basics for $2 - $1 CO51).

Made them in a slow cooker with onions, garlic, butter and seasonings.
    Yum!

Ah perogies. I love perogies. Hubby cant stand them because his mother made perogies once a week every week for as long as he can remember. I love my potato and cheddar cheese perogies, boiled in salted water, drained and with lots of sour cream! Or with fried salted pork fat and onions. Good for clogged arteries! lol

I was lucky enough to bring back from my vacation 2 huge coolers of seafood (all donated by family & friends), mostly cod fillets and also block crab meat, cod tongues, salted cod, bags of baby shrimp, scallops, etc. I think today I am going to try and make some fish cakes from the salted cod.

Last night we had company, so I went all out. A la Greek/italian family that we are . We had Cesar salad , sausages , stuffed shells , carrots and asparagus, spicy potatoes, garden cucumbers and cheesy garlic bread . For desert , espresso, lattés and red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting .
Yes I was cooking all day but we had a great time and so did everyone else . And everyone left with leftovers lol

My mom made them almost weekly as well, but that didn't stop my continued love for them!

Tonight's supper will be leftover roast chicken from yesterday, some leftover pork from the day before, supplemented by whatever bits of sides are leftover, plus I'll make devilled eggs to go with it all.
