yes! Silver lining eh? I could have easily broken down and grabbed fast food on the way home. lol

I admired your efforts for making such a fresh nutritional dinner after your long work day! Otoh, today at 2 p.m. I scarfed back a dish of freshly flour coated and pan fried baby beef liver with onions and a large ( 2 Keurig cups ) coffee. That was my first meal since 6:30 last night. Too bad I'm still full. That one liver meal could certainly have gone over the allowable protein for the day but I'll have to start punching in the data on MyFitnesspal to see....lol Maybe I can just have some fruit as a last night snack?

my DH agrees with the healing rays of the big yellow ball in the sky! On weekends he plants himself out front on the deck with his " girlfriend " Alexa! He instructs her to play his favourite tunes ( loud enough so the neighbour's must think he's a nutty Boomer! ) I just bought him a can of Banana Boat 50 SPF sunscreen because he would never put any on unless it was there.

lol! We are craving for a few sunny days here. Personally I'm not even out in the fresh air that much but when I see the bright sunshine through the windows it puts me in a much better mood for the day.

your recounting of that memory of Harley sniffing Gramma's pockets really triggered my waterworks. Today was a successful day of Hamlet's reduced diet. Kinda weird that yesterday totally out of the blue DH noticed that " one of the cats " had dropped a poop on the floor vent IN THE KITCHEN! At first I wondered wtf? BUT, then I remembered that I had forgotten to open the back blinds and lower the window shelving thing that Hamlet sleeps on every day. He must have been pooping to protest! lol

Absolutely. That’s a decision not to be entered into lightly. They are a cost and sometimes a BIG one ( we had a $2200 dermatologist bill!) but we’d do it in a heartbeat again.
We also saved BEFORE getting him. We had a fire hydrant dog cookie jar for him and we put every extra $ in the “pup fund” a good 1.5 years before we got him. We had enough for his fee, shots, neutering, all his supplies like food, leashes and TONS of toys and beds(yes he had more than one. We kept adding to the “Harley” fund and that helped. Actually we still have his bank account and still add to it.
Cats are sweet and while they are probably better at being alone you still shouldn’t leave them for really long periods. I’m glad you have taught your kids that.

with all of the good feels that pets give us I have cautioned all 3 of my kids NOT to adopt any pet unless they can provide the financial part that they will bring into your life. That is one
side of the equation I never factored in, eg: the cost of regular trips to the groomers, unexpected vet costs. Also being left alone while their masters have to work is a large part of stress for dogs.
So far only 1 DS has a cat...lol.

omg, what a blessing to have seen him at just 8 hours old! That image of him then and at 8 weeks will never be erased for you. Memories are good.

oh baby you are singing my song! I never had cats or dogs growing up, so my 2 shih tzu's were my first falling in love experience. Did I ever tell you that the first time I discovered the life span of dogs was in the waiting room with Rufus, he was maybe a year old. A chart on the wall showed how smaller breeds have a longer life than larger breeds, BUT I started crying because I guess I never ever knew how short their lives are! 12 years -14 years? How the heck is that fair? Worthless humans get 50, 60 up to 90 years if healthy, while these gems who love us unconditionally get a dozen. Grrrr!

To this day I still cannot walk by anyone walking their pups and not make some stupid half crying comment to them. It's usually a complimentary thing about how darn cute their doggie is but as soon as my mind wonders a bit I can see the faces of our 2 furbabies we lost. DH and I agreed no more dogs for us after losing Rufus last. Funny thing is we rescued that scrawny Chipping Sparrow ( Frankie Feathers )
on Father's Day 1+ 1/2 years ago and we have MORE daily responsibilities to keep him alive and entertained than we had with the dogs! ha ha
