We built ours! Out of wood. DH and DS made it a summer project, then we bought a large metal mail slot thing to fit into the rectangle opening from CT. They coated it many times with urethane to protect from weather.....then 2 yrs ago I painted it deep blue to match the front door! lol DD loved the deep blue, she wanted me to find more things out on the front porch to paint that colour!

Best move we ever made, before that we had a " flip the lid, anyone help yourself to our mail " type of box. lol!!

PB, I do not think you are paranoid, people DO steal things from houses.....hence the " Do Not Safe Drop " option on parcels. I am relieved you are moving though, that might just do it. I wonder if you will get a whole new carrier too ( different area altogether) because the work ethics of one are vastly different from another, I am hoping you get a very conscientious soul!!
One last thing, maybe, just maybe you could erect a nice large mailbox with a big enough slot for many small and average parcels, large magazine to fit into, and have a lock on it too. We did that because we did not want to pay to put our mail on hold, so when we went away on vaca, the mail easily was pushed through and fell a fair ways down to the bottom, leaving ample room for 2 weeks worth...oh and the junk mail! Good grief I had lots of that.

Baby corns!!

Owning pets is a real expense, that is why I refused to let DH bring ANY pets in this house when the 3 kids were small, we could just NOT afford it. Not until DS#1 was about 10 or so we took in a cat that had been abused by former owners and my Mom was so sad, asked me to adopt it, so we did. Puff was soooo overweight it was sad. Big fluffy white long hair, scared of her own shadow, lived under the basement bed for the first 3 days, She finally trusted me enough to let me unmat the hair on her coat and after a week I could have knit a sweater with what I pulled off! lol
Now I just accept that the costs are going to be there, we are in a better position now than years ago.Btw I never brush the dogs teeth either, they won't let me I've tried. Then when they get groomed, the vet says NEVER let them do a teeth brushing because it is worse to aggravate the gums just that once ( and charge you extra too)

oops! I meant neuter! Yes he is a male. We did something ( rabies shots I think) free once for our other two cats
( long gone now) but I do like the vet we have, even though yes it does cost that much for the snip snip job.
We even had her put one of our shih zhu's under to have his teeth cleaned, like a hygienist does scraping all the plaque off, as he NEVER chews anything, tries to swallow stuff whole, so major tarter and possible disease if not kept cleaned. Did that the once, the gums are all starting to look bad again!
My other dog is always gnawing a dog bone and has healthier gums because of it. Our eldest cat is Dot ( about 10, then dogs, 9 and 8, then Claudius, 2 and baby kins at maybe 10 weeks ( approx?) sigh.....

oh I know, the vet bills, yes DS's cat needed 3 appointments and meds during Dec, She has a Food allergy it seems. Mom and Dad to that rescue, even tho she lives with him! Well Hamlet in my sig pic is resting on DS#2's feet, so BITE away Hamlet!! lol When it comes time to spay Hamlet, trust me, I will!

Things have been pretty good...and yes definitely better now that Christmas is over ....i never realized how much a simple move could mess with my life.....i used to be so organized before with my couponing stuff but since the move things have been pure chaos! But I am finally starting to get back to semi-normal It's only taken 9 1/2 months...lol
