I have read back a few pages in the frugal thread, yes I have been using a pressure cooker for most of my married life, but I am STILL afraid and very respectful of it's power and danger, so I never leave the kitchen when it is on. Also, I mostly used it to cook up batches of stew beef. ( to tenderize it actually ) then I might make stew OR sometimes a meat pie ( pastry crust ). I haven't used my cooker in a while because the rubber ring sealer part is not fitting tight enough ( giving me grief ) inside the lid and also my model has no numbers/gauge thingy, so you just have to eyeball the top spitter thing that dances on the top. I start the cooking time from the minute it starts to make that steam escape sound. Boy do I ever sound like an expert eh? ha ha My dad always pressure cooked so I think that was the reason I chose to. Sorry not much help.

I am so confused now. o.k. so I cook my skinned and pureed tomatoes in a very large electric cooker ( has a rectangular insert pan ) and I fill this item with the puree to the top, then I let it simmer and cook all day uncovered and the sauce thickens and reduces a lot! ( goes down by more than half ) So out of probably 35 lbs of tomatoes ( I am guessing here ) I only yielded 6 Litre jars of sauce. I process for only 35 minutes in boiling water bath because that is what my canning book says to do. They all seal fine, but even my DH says " gee is that all you got out of that whole pan " I tried to tell him that this is very near tomato paste, nice and thick so that is why the yield is lower. Left in the freezer are 4 more bags of tomatoes to do ( I use cereal bags to freeze them in ) and today I had used 6 bags of them to get this batch. Maybe I'll process this next batch in 500 ml jars size so I will have enough to put into the boiling water pot. It still smells so nice in here.

hi, curious about how many lbs ( approx ) a bushel of tomatoes would be? I read that your yield was 19 Litres of sauce from that bushel! I got 50 lbs from RCSS ( 2 x 25 lb of their Romas for $4.00 each!! ) but the mixture is still simmering/cooking/reducing/thickening ( ha ha ) and the aroma in here is awesome! ( They all think I am cooking some dish up, nope guys just sauce going )
I actually could not skin and blend the whole 50 lbs this a.m because my cooker only holds so much. I'll be doing this again in a few days until all the tomatoes are out of my freezer. Such fun!

about SDM in general, I was an avid collector for about 1 1/2 years. ( from maybe mid 2009 to end of 2010 ) My rule was I had to be getting the product anyways, so no looking for things just cuz I had a coupon, or there were Optimum points attached. They had the " tell a friend event " and that was what really earned me some points early on! Of course tricks like buying the SDM GC's first earning points, then I'd pay for my purchases with that GC.
It was all fun and I cashed out on a MEGA redeem getting $400.00 of things totally free ( ALL food items ) because I did not want to pay tax, lol!! My cupboards were stocked with jars, boxes, packages, some frozen foods I think (?), cheese, milk, baking ingredients, etc. Too bad they did not carry produce, I would have grabbed that too!

But after they stole people's points I just turned my back on SDM ( they never took any of mine ) and now i just do not use much from that store. ( don't buy makeup, baby needs,) Most other stores have better deals for paper products and cleaning stuff. If I ever do reach 8,000 points I think amira will have a heart attack!! ha ha

not sure what easy switch is? It has been about 6 yrs for me now with PC...I wish I had changed many yrs earlier, was always nervous to disrupt the way I did things. Silly now that I think about it.
